NEW LINUS RANGE NOW AVAILBLE AT BICYCLE BOUTIQUE, BIKELANDS

www.bikelands.co.uk

Devon bicycle store, Bikelands stays ahead of the curve with the new range from stylish Californian bicycle brand, Linus.

Linus take inspiration from chic bicycle design of the 50s and 60s. Emphasis is on simple elegance and the pure form of that golden era, but with all the benefits of modern design and reliability.

With names like The Hamptons, The Market Bag, The Eleanor, wonderful images of bike rides by the sea and picnics in the sand dunes; visiting the farmer’s market; or cycling to brunch with girl friends with the classic and stylish Eleanor pannier in tow. Or there is the bestselling Sac inspired by vintage boat bags. This deep sac is perfect for town, beach, the office or everyday cycling.

The bags are made from heavy duty 16 oz treated canvas with a coated base so they are extremely durable. While the new Hampton is a sturdy ‘Ruc Sac’ with lots of storage pockets the remaining bags are panniers with a simple hook design that easily to your rack for your convenience and chic cycling option.

Bike Biz October issue 105

I was asked a few weeks back if I'd like to write a column on any part of the cycle industry I felt strongly about.  For those who know me, my mantra usually involves something to do with 'Everyday Cycling'.

I used to be a typical cyclist; putting on the gear and zipping around the streets of London.  However, of late its really erked me that regular cycling in the UK, as a percentage, remains stubbornly low.  This is dispite Wiggo winning the Tour de France, Team GB firing on all cylinders in the 2012 Olympics and a massive following of our very own Tour of Britain.

Why is this?  I don't have all the answers, but if we try to think who we are selling too, we may well buck the trend.

You can read my column here BikeBiz

DEVON’S PREMIER BIKE BOUTIQUE NOMINATED FOR BEST INDEPENDENT CYCLE RETAILER OF THE YEAR

Bikelands the boutique bicycle shop that tries to keep a step ahead of the competition have been nominated in Total Women’s Cycling Annual Awards category for the ‘Independent Cycling Retailer of the Year’.  The Award Ceremony will take place on Thursday 13th February at The London Bike Show, being held at ExCeL, London.

Other luminaries contending this category are Condor Cycles, Sigma Sport, Dame Cycles and the 2013 winners Rutland Cycles.  Voted by their customers, they were asked to look for the best; banter, advice, support, chat, organised rides they offered. This is because many local bike shops (LBS) offer much more than just kit and bikes.

Bikelands co-owner Stuart Newlands says “I’m totally chuffed, to think we’ve been grouped in with such heavy weights as Condor and Rutland, it’s amazing”.  Bikelands have come along way in such a short time.  Trading for little over a year, they have definitely found their niche.  Co-owner Rebecca Haywood says “being a women who used to cycling a lot and then because of various reason stopped, I know how it feels to get back on a bike again.  Hopefully we also know what they want too”.

With the ‘Everyday Cycling’ tread only getting bigger, Bikelands refuses to be categorised as a sport shop, Stuart says “we want to attract those who would never step-foot into a bike shop.  We offer honest advice without jargon and try building long term customer relationships”, he adds “if people start their love of cycling with us, perhaps one day they will be riding sportives, but if not there are plenty of baskets and bells to choose from”.

DEVON’S PREMIER BIKE BOUTIQUE GOES ELECTRIC

Bikelands will be selling Momentum Electric bikes

Bikelands the boutique bicycle shop that tries to keep a step ahead of the competition are delighted to announce the introduction of Momentum e-bikes to their stable.  Launched last year, Momentum Electric brings to life the dreams of Andreas  Toerpsch and Ying-Tsao Tan.

At the heart of Momentum Electric bikes is their automatic torque sensor AUTORQ™ system; an innovation exclusive to Momentum electric.  It measures your effort on the pedals and intelligently controls the 250W motor to provide assistance accordingly.  The bikes also boast a SRAM Automatix 2-speed hub gear. The result is an intuitive ride and excellent range from the 324Wh lithium-ion battery.

There are two styles; The Upstart and the Model T.  The Upstart appeals to the commuter market, it’s very elegant and the silhouette echoes the current trend for fixie style bikes.  The Model T is a more sedate ‘everyday’ bike, with a comfy saddle, sturdy rear rack and wider cruiser style handlebars.

Commenting on Momentum Electric co-owner Stuart Newlands said:

“When I first tried the bikes it was like, in the words of Adam Smith, ‘The Invisible Hand’ pushing me along! I love the fact they are power assisted, so I still need to cycle.   The feeling is a addictive and the bikes look great!”
