Home Mechanics Workshop


We're really excited to announce that we are now running Home Bicycle Mechanic Workshops here at Bikelands. The workshops are run by our man Scully; Cytech Level 3 qualified mechanic, ex-Marine and allround cool guy.  There are only a limited number of places on each workshop, so please get in touch to reserve your spot and avoid disappointment.

Each workshop will run for 2 hours (7pm-9pm) on a Monday evening. We will cover the following areas; Wheels, Brakes, Gears, Bottom Brackets and Headsets. There will also be a Maintenance Overview workshop for beginners. Before booking your place we'll discuss which workshop best suits your needs.

Each workshop will cost £30 per session (Maintenance Overview will cost £25), you will work on your own bicycle. so it'll will benefit too! If you book and pay in advance for all 6 sessions, you'll pay the reduce price of £150 (basically you get the Overview for free!).  

CTC members are entitled to a 10% discount.

Bike Maintenance Part 3 – Brakes 2 hours £30

  • ·       How the brakes work, strip and clean
  • ·       Refit, change brake pads
  • ·       Cable routing, replacement and lubrication
  • ·       Lever positioning and maintenance

30th June

Bike Maintenance Part 4 – Gears 2 hours £30

  • ·       Setting rear and front mech
  • ·       Cable routing, replacement and lubrication
  • ·       Shifter positioning and maintenance
  • ·       Gear indexing

7th July

Bike Maintenance Part 5 - Bottom Brackets £30

  • ·       Identify the different types of BB
  • ·       Striping and cleaning
  • ·       Facing external BB and re-assemble

14th July

Bike Maintenance Part 6 – Headsets £30

  • ·       Identify the different types of headset
  • ·       Striping and greasing
  • ·       Star flange replacement
  • ·       Re-assemble

Participants will be expected to work on their own bicycle, however if this is not possible a bicycle will be provided for. Cabling, lubricants and tools will all be provided for at no extra cost.

We suggest that all participants wear suitable clothing, since grease and grime will be encountered!

There are 6 places available for Part 1 and 4 places available on Parts 2 to 6.

Lessons are expected to last for 2 hours, although participants should be aware that sometimes classes could over-run.
